“Great weekender...”

Cala Rosa Hotel

We booked this hotel as a cheap weekend getaway.. sun and beach was all we wanted.

Cala Rosa was a pleasent hotel with clean and air conditioned rooms, friendly staff, great pool, well kept grounds and some evening entertainment that was amusing more than entertaining... primarily because it was all in italian and geared towards the itallian families on holiday there of which is its main market.. also slightly cheesy. It goes all day, stops for siesta.. and can go on till 11pm... dancing to the barbie girl song with the audience joining in to learn a few moves.. and singing along with 'C'mon Barbie - lets go party... oh oh oh yeah...' hence the amusement...

We had half board but only ate breakfast at the hotel and opted for a restaurant each night instead. The restaurant at the bottom of the street had nice food, was cheap but the service was appalling to the point where we refused to return... with our other option for the next evening closed upon arrival and nothing else within short walking distance... we had to try again but this time to get take away pizza... again.. appalling service - great pizza!

The private beach is not great... the second beach futher down where the courtesy van drops you off is better... but the more popular and stunning beach is a futher 5 min walk down the road from the drop point in La Palossa. 32 Euros for three beach loungers and 2 umbrellas... It is packed out and very popular...

I would stay again... but I would probably hire a care and take in more of the coast line. However over three days and two nights we got our fix of sun, beach and pool and left Sardinia much revived.

The taxi from airport to hotel is about an hour and cost 70 euro each way. There is a airport shuttle you can order but we did not enquire.

“pleasant family orientated hotel”

Cala Rosa Hotel

Spent a few days in June on a last minute escape. We enjoyed our stay as a couple even though the hotel is geared towards families. Most of the guests were italian and very friendly. It helps if you have a few italian phrases as the area of Stintino has not been discovered by the package holiday companies (Hooray!).

Getting to the hotel from Alghero airport costs 70 euros by taxi - there are few buses and car hire is recommended if you wish to stay for a week or more. The hotel provides a beach shuttle which is good but no travel to Stintino town which is well worth the 20 minute walk or 10 minute cycle ride. The journey to town involves a hill which is difficult on a bike in hot weather.

The pool was excellent although the italian GSA club (I think its a kids club) played some fairly loud music during their 10- 12 and 4-6pm slots. They cater very well for small children and those who enjoy aqua-aerobics, water polo etc.

The restaurant is based on a cafeteria style buffet but the food is well above average for this type of catering. Being italian it consists of antipasta, pasta, maincourse and desserts. All courses are available from the outset of the meal with a chef serving main courses and filleting cooked fish excellently in front of you. Be prompt for mealtimes as the enthusiam for food creates a truly italian experience- loud, fun and slightly chaotic!

Overall I would recommend this hotel. However -Sardinia is not the same as Italy and star ratings are based on ammenities not quality. Fixtures and fittings are generally worn but servicable, Everthing is slightly more basic than the more popular resorts. We found this refreshing and felt that it added charm but it is not the equivalent of a 4 star hotel elsewhere.

Amenities at Alghero airport are fairly basic so shop and eat before leaving. There is a cafe but you have to queue at the shop cash register to pay for your drink/ food and obtain a ticket to be handed across the bar for service- Nobody will tell you this at the airport!

“Great value for money.”

This hotel offered great value for money. We have been to Italy before so we know the rooms are basic. Our room was clean and tidy and the breakfast was a buffet style - the selection was good.

Just a short walk away is a fabulous beach (La Pelosa). There is a good restaurant nearby too so you have some choice.

We visited out of season and the area was quiet. We only stayed 2 nights as we hired a car and travelled around the island but we would gladly recommend it to others.

“A Picture Paints 1 Word - Awful”

Cala Rosa Hotel

My wife and I stayed here for two nights at the end of a week long trip to Sardinia, we had stayed in some truly amazing places and believed we had booked a nice hotel in Stintino based on the website visuals and description! But that was not the case!.

The check in process was painful, each room is located in a block and there is a stepping stone path to get to each one! Not easy with luggage!.

Butlins is one way to describe this property and by no means should it be described as 4*, 2* is a more appropritate rating. The rooms are small and clean, but the decor, ceiling tiles, floor tiles, bathroom will not leave you with a warm comfortable feeling.

The private beach (man made lido), is quite a distance from the hotel and will cost you €50 per week, it is also an additional €10 for a seaview!

If you are interested in a Butlins style adventure in Sardinia, this is the place for you, if not avoid at all costs!

“Cannot believe the star rating”

This Hotel is probably a one and half star rating at best. The room fittings are generally shabby and largely need replacing.
The hotel did not have very many of the facilities that it claimed to offer, available at the time of our weeks stay were only the restaurant for short service periods only and the main bar which was open only in the evening and then only until 10.30pm. There was no entertainment. The pool was not filled until the last two days of our stay and none of the sport facilities were available. The hotel does not appear to have a private beach as advertised. All meals are self service buffet style and are inadequate with very little choice. Do not stay half board, eat out!
The saving graces of the Hotel are the staff and the wonderful view of the coast available from some of the rooms - worth paying the extra 10 euros per day. If you do not have a sea view, find another Hotel.
Staff are very helpful and friendly, doing their best with inadequate resources. All in all, poor value.
