We are a couple in our late 50ty - early 60ty age group. we wished to visit the Yasawas, and this was the place I picked after reading several reviews. Our experience, no doubt about it, the staff are attentive and we enjoyed the overall atmosphere at Navutu Stars, food was good and plentiful, but watch the costs of food and drink, the bill soon climbs up and we were there for 4 nights. We had a few issues at times with hot shower water and bottle labels were smudged. However, the room overall is a delight, comfortable beds and the day bed and double hammock were just perfect. One niggle for us older bods, no jug supplied for a hot drink at night and although we were given a flask, it did not do the job too well. Quite frankly , a mug would be a great option to the small cups supplied at all times. When we asked for anything , the staff were always helpful, how ever oldies tend to sleep more often, but for short periods, and that night time cuppa! Loved our time on and in the water, however if you walk in the water at low tide, beware the beasties! I was well prepared, I thought, to combat the bugs, but something lurks in the over heated water, take anti histamine with you if you are allergic to insect bites. I still have some very red itchy red marks. This has nothing to do with the hotel, but is given as a warning to visitors in general.

We stayed recently at Navutu for 8 nights in March and I don't even know where or how to start to explain how amazing this place is!

We opted to take the sea plane, Turtle Airways and were so glad we did. You have to pay for a taxi to the departure point for the plane, which we weren't told about when we made the booking so we had to scrabble around getting cash. Not a big deal though as it wasn't expensive. The plane was full of loaves and mushrooms but it added to the experience! 30 minutes later you are dropped off at Turtle Island and there is then a 5 minute boat journey (on the island express!) to Navutu.

Right from the minute we arrived and Dan and the staff started singing, we fell in love with the place. We stayed in the garden bure which was gorgeous, so totally private and spacious. The bures have the same feel as the rest of the resort, a kind of hippy chic. You are totally made to feel that you can go anywhere in the resort without making the place look untidy, not like many other resorts of this standard. We had the beach at the end of our "drive way" totally to ourselves, although we spent most of our daytime at the pool as it was so lovely and cool. Much needed in the heat!

Freddy and Maddy are lovely people and what they have done here is just what we'd hoped. They have set up an amazing place on an amazing island. The staff are fantastic, particularly May who made us laugh every day in her ever changing outfits. The food was delicious, not over priced at all as some people seem to think and Noah's cocktails lived up to the hype. Make sure you go on the village visit, we went in the torrential rain and everyone got covered in mud but it was such fun. Ask Seruvi to take you snorkelling and show you his fish and octopus houses. He is frantically re-planting coral to replace all the dead stuff which was killed by dynamite fishing in the past.

What made this visit even more special for us was the fact that we made great friends with other people who were staying there. It seems Navutu attracts the kind of people we were meant to meet! We all hope to be back there together some day.

I urge anyone who's thinking of a trip to Fiji to visit this resort. It is small and perfectly formed and you really feel like you belong there. Every staff member knows your name, but you don't feel like you're being crowded at all. How do they do that???

Thank you Navutu for the perfect belated honeymoon.

We'll see you again one day.

“So happy we came back”

Navutu Stars Resort

We loved Navutu Stars when we first visited in 2007 and we're so happy we came back in 2008.

Fijians are world leaders in making visitors welcome but the staff at Navutu Stars must be top of that particular class. Without exception they are marvellous and because of the resort's small size, you feel like part of an extended family. Having said that, one of the big plus points for Navutu is the privacy it can give you; the bures are well spaced and if you choose to spend time on your own, it's easy to achieve.

The magicians in the kitchen continue to weave their spells.

The owners undertake improvements each year and now there is an extended and comfortable area at the bar. This gives you the perfect excuse to enjoy the relaxed pre-dinner atmosphere and sample a variety of the wonderful cocktails. I had my first mojito and it was every bit as good as cited by other reviewers.

Another plus for us has been the absence of children. I'm not sure what the resort's offical line is on this issue but there weren't any staying on either of our visits. In my view it's the wrong sort of resort for children because it's designed for adults who want to relax in privacy in a beautiful location and who can pamper themselves with good food, a massage perhaps and, if you're feeling like a bit more excitement, some snorkelling or fishing. The resort arranged for me to do some scuba diving with a PADI outfit (Dive Yasawa Lagoon) about 10 or 15 minutes away by boat.

Thank you Freddy, Maddalena, Giovanna, Dan and all the staff for providing us with the perfect escape, a week to remember fondly for ever.

“Fijian Paradise”

Navutu Stars Resort

We have just returned from 11 magnificent nights at Navutu Stars and cannot praise the resort enough! Myself and my girlfriend were only meant to stay for 8 nights and explore another island for 3 nights but liked Navutu so much that we extended our stay.

We stayed in a beach front bure and were pleasantly surprised by the generous size and luxurious interior. The hammock, sunbeds and day bed outside our bure were brilliant for lazy afternoons! The resort has lovely sea water pool which was a great place to chill out and cool down in the Fijian Sun.

The food at Natutu was top class! Thanks to Ben and his team for producing world class food - the dinner menu changed everyday for our entire stay!...brilliant

To be honest there are countless reasons for recommending Navutu but the biggest reason has to be the staff. From the moment we arrived the staff at Navutu were as friendly and welcoming as we have ever experienced. The friendliness of all the staff kept us smiling and laughing for our entire stay!

Overall our stay at Navutu Stars was perfect...we actually cannot find any faults!

“Navutu is Paradise!”

Navutu Stars Resort

We just returned from two amazing weeks at Navutu Stars for our delayed honeymoon. It was the only stop on our trip, since we wanted a “get-away-from-everything” vacation. It is a truly special place and our vacation was the most wonderful trip we have ever taken. I really cannot rave enough about this resort and the people that work there.

The owners have created an absolute gem and their impeccable style and special attention to detail is evident. We were one of the first three couples to stay at the resort after it had been closed for a month of maintenance in February 2008. (During the month the resort was closed, they built a new covered lounge area by the bar which keeps it cool and gives plenty of room to relax during happy hour).

The friendliness and openness of the staff is incredible. They make you feel like family, and their enthusiasm is infectious. And because we were there with only two other couples, we became very close with our co-guests -- so much so that when one of the couples got engaged, we all cheered, cried and drank champagne together late into the night. We were very sad to see those guests leave the resort, and we will always consider them good friends. And we made other friends that actually picked us up when we returned to the main island, so the we could enjoy one last evening of Fijian hospitality!

As for the resort itself, where do we begin? The location is amazing, the atmosphere is effortlessly chic, the food is terrific, and the staff is genuine, warm and incredibly attentive. It actually feels like you've been invited into their homes for the vacation. Freddy and Maddie really got every detail right in designing this getaway, and the absence of technology (and distractions) is wonderful.

Activities we loved: (1) snorkeling just off the resort and on day trips; (2) scuba with Niko from the dive shop at the Coral Reef; (3) sunset cruise with Noa the bartender, and members of the incredibly musical staff; (4) trip to the limestone caves; (5) village trips, especially attending church on Palm Sunday at the main village on Yaqeta (it was Children's Sunday -- the singing was breathtaking), (6) cocktail hour every evening with our co-guests and Noa at the bar (he makes the most amazing cocktails and is a wonderful person), and (7) Daily lessons in speaking Fijian (supplemented by the patient and friendly staff, who taught us a lot of phrases in the local dialect of the Yasawas).

The Kava ceremony and Lovo feast were also great. We also had some relaxing massages at the Spa bure. (Tip: Try to schedule massages during high tide, so you can listen to the relaxing sound of waves lapping 15 feet from where you are being massaged!)

Navutu allows you to spend your vacation many different ways. You can really fill your days with the various activities available at and near the resort, or you can simply relax in a hammock or daybed all day. A typical day for us was breakfast in the main dining area, snorkeling or another morning activity, post-snorkel cocktail, lunch, nap on outdoor daybed, relaxation massage, clean up for cocktail hour, dinner and then hanging out and talking with the other guests at the bar after dinner. Another plus for us was the diversity of the guests -- there’s just something about a resort like Navutu that attracts friendly, outgoing people.

Some comments on things other reviewers have mentioned: 1) The lagoon is tidal, as are all the lagoons in the Yasawas. It never bothered us at all. In fact, we spent a lot of the low-tide time walking out into the lagoon, watching the rays and finding starfish. Nighttime low tides are also a great time to walk out into the lagoon and stargaze. 2) We never had any problem with water pressure or temperature, nor with anything in the room. In fact, when one of the handles on our sliding door came loose, it was repaired before I even remembered to mention it to the front desk. (How’s that for attention to detail?) 3) Yes, Noa’s mojitos are that good. I make a mean mojito myself, and I thought Noa’s mojitos could never live up to all the hype I had read. But they are easily the best I have ever had. 4) The activities away from the resort do have a small additional charge, which is always minimal, given that you travel by boat to the locations. The amount of the charge is just enough to cover the gasoline costs. Most of the activities cost less than a cocktail. 5) Meal portions are enormous. We used the gourmet meal plan so that we could eat whatever we wanted, and we could never finish our meals. We usually shared an appetizer, a pasta and a main course, and we occasionally shared a dessert -- and we were stuffed! I cannot understand the reviewers that considered the portions small. We routinely asked our servers to bring us smaller portions, or to skip parts of the meal (and at over 200 pounds, my husband has a hearty appetite).

The bottom line about a resort like Navutu is that your vacation is what you make of it. Embrace the people, the incredible location, and wonderful activities, and you will have one amazing experience after another. Keep to yourself and you will enjoy the amazing solitude of this little corner of the earth. The best thing about Navutu Stars is that you can do both, as your mood suits you.

Finally, we must say a special word about the owners and the staff. They are incredible people. They are open, warm, caring, and truly dedicated to making sure that your stay is as perfect as possible. The first day, I was worried that we would forget all the names, as everyone (even the landscapers) would come up and shake our hands and say hello ("Bula!"). By the end of the first week, we knew them all by heart, and talked with everyone each day. Thanks to the owners Freddy and Maddie, and all the wonderful staff, including Noa (our giant itau!), Dan, Kikau, Seruvi, Eddie, Eta, Lytia, Veroni, Veroni, and Mae, who have all worked so hard to create one of the most special places in the world.

I hope that you all get to spend some time at Navutu Stars at some point in your lives. We can’t wait to go back.

Bula and Vinaka Vaka Levu!!!
