Visitors to Kunming have a number of options for getting around the city and the rest of the country with public transportation. 

            The city of Kunming is serviced by an extensive public transportation network.  There are numerous bus routes around the immediate city of Kunming, a full list of which can be found on the city map (can be purchased at any news agent).  The fare for a one way bus ride is 1 yuan, which is to be paid to the driver upon boarding.  No change is given, so stock up on 1 yuan pieces. 

            Traveling by bus from Kunming to various locations within the Yunnan Province is very easy, as the bus station in Kunming is the main hub for the area.   For more information, visit the city center bus station.

            Taxis are a good way of getting around the immediate city of Kunming.  Fares are based on meters, which are standard for all companies.  Generally, taxis will be waiting outside of major public areas such as the airport, train stations, bus stations, and large hotels, but they can also be easily flagged down all around the city.  Because many drivers do not speak English, it is a wise idea to bring along a map with the desired destination circled.
