There are several festivals and events held throughout the year in Kyoto in which you can see performances by geishas first-hand. The Gion district is the most famous area in which to see geisha. Geisha are traditional performers whose skills may include singing, playing traditional instruments, and dancing. They are often hired to entertain at private parties or other gatherings held at traditional Japanese tea houses or restaurants.
The Gion Corner Theatre, located at Yasaka Hall, Gion, Hanamikoji Shijo-sagaru, is a great way to experience the traditional Japanese arts. Performances are held throughout the year from March through November, which two nightly performances at 7 and 8 p.m. The price of admission is 2800 Yen.
