The history of Arlington, Texas does not actually run all that deep. During the mid 1800s Texas had ongoing wars occurring between new American settlers and the Native Americans. Territories were always in question and fought over. As groups of people were sprouting out into farther and farther radiuses within Texas, the area of Arlington became a popular trading post established by Colonel Tate Johnson. Known as Johnson Station, it only got busier and busier bringing more and more people to the area.
The area only was to grow more when the Texas and Pacific Railway built right through the city. The town became the quintessential Western saloon town soon after and it was changed from Johnson Station to Arlington, named to commemorate General Robert E. Lee's home in Virginia. By 1884, Arlington was officially an incorporated city and it started growing at a fast pace.
In even more recent years, Arlington saw a more modern development that helped make it even more of an attraction as the first Six Flags Over Texas was opened in Arlington in 1961. All outlets of tourism greatly benefited from the park and Arlington only continued to grow. Today it is in the top 50 most populous cities in America and its location between Dallas and Fort Worth makes it an ideal place to live and visit!
