Tamarindo's warm, clear waters make it an ideal destination for water sports all year-round. Snorkeling, surfing, diving, and deep sea fishing are all major draws to the area. Coral reefs protect many of the beaches providing a safe haven for undersea adventures and an ecosystem of marine life. Other parts of the beach pull in some major waves that surfers love.
The following beaches are a surfing paradise:
- Playa Tamarindo
- Playa Avellanas
- Playa Langosta
- Playa Negra
- Playa Grande
Further out is:
- Witch's Rock
- Ollie's Point
Playa Avellanas is a great beach for snorkeling as the current is very low due to the protective coral reef. Of course, the beautiful reef at Playa Avellana, is also the main reason to explore underwater
