Tortuguero has a project called the Eco-Dollar for those interested in helping the community. The project is done by the school children to raise money for the schools in the area. Every tuesday and Thursday the high school children are painting bookmarks that are being sold in the area for one dollar. The money goes right to the schools. This is a must see for the tourists who are interested in the school system and community life in Tortuguero.
