There isn’t really a shortage of activities to do in Tortuguero. Numerous tours of the surrounding nature park will let you discover this unspoiled paradise, and there are numerous opportunities for biking and hiking, as well as guided bird watching tours.
The Caribbean is inviting year round for swimming and other activities in the surf. But if soaking in the sun on white sandy beaches is too slow paced for you, there are plenty of other faster paced activities including tours for sport fishing, surfing, sea kayaking and boating.
Back on land the mountain bike trails are some of the most beautiful anywhere, and there are also horseback riding trails, and rock climbing. You can also spend the day getting aerial tours of Tortuguero, which operate from the small domestic airports. These can give you a bird’s eye view of this scenic national park, as well as the surrounding Costa Rican countryside, including the Barra del Colorado Wildlife Refuge to the north.
Tortuguero is also home to several small indigenous communities, and it is possible to visit these to take more of the area’s fascinating culture. Sun, sand, surf, varied cultures and plenty of wildlife makes certain you’re never bored in Tortuguero.
