For visitors to Salta, there are many options for getting around the city and its neighboring areas, which include by car, taxi, bus, and train.

A car is perhaps the best way to get around while visiting Salta.  Renting a car allows for great freedom and flexibility in exploring.  However, before getting behind the wheel of a car, make sure to check out this Driving in Argentina page.  Visit this Salta Car Rental Agencies List for more information on this topic.

Because Salta is such a small city (check out this City Map), getting around is very easy.  Most places within the city are accessible by foot, which all but eliminates the need for public transportation.  There are however some taxis that service the city, but they are few and far between, so make sure to call ahead to arrange for a pick up.  Most hotels will be happy to call for their customers.

There are no local buses that service the city, as there is no need.  There are however many national bus companies that make stops at Salta.  For information about bus travel from Salta to many destinations throughout Argentina, visit this Salta Bus Transportation link.

Train to the Clouds was once the pride of Salta. Unfortunatly the train has not been running for the last 2 years. (2008). In Salta you can visit the abandond train station. The grass is knee high and on the tracks you will find the old train falling apart. Seeing this it is sure hard to believe, that this train ever will go to the sky again.
