Because of its small size (check out this Salta City Map ), the need for public transportation within the city limits of Salta is all but non-existent.  In fact, aside from taking personal vehicles or walking, taxis are the only way of getting around the city.  However, if planning on exploring areas outside of Salta, buses and trains are available.

Most places in the city are accessible by foot, and this is the way that most local people travel.  But when walking is not desired, taxis come in handy.  Taxis can be found in the city, but they are few and far between.  The best way to get a taxi is to call ahead and arrange for a pick up.  Most hotels will be happy to call for their customers, as will most restaurants and bars.  Fares are to be negotiated, so make sure to agree on a price before beginning a journey to avoid any problems at the trip’s conclusion.  Because many drivers don’t speak English, it is a good idea to carry a map with the destination distinctly circled.
