Taxis and rental cars are both options for getting around while visiting the city of Salta.  Taxis however have their limitations based on the city’s size.

            Salta is a small city (check out this City Map), which makes getting around very easy.  Most places in the city are accessible by foot, and this is the way that most local people travel.  But there are some days when walking is not desired, which is when taxis come in handy.  Taxis are available in the city, but they are few and far between.  The best way to get a taxi is to call ahead and arrange for a pick up.  Most hotels will be happy to call for their customers, as will most restaurants and bars.  Fares are to be negotiated, so make sure to agree on a price before beginning a journey to avoid any problems at the trip’s conclusion.  Because many drivers don’t speak English, it is a good idea to carry a map with the destination distinctly circled.

            A car is the best way to get around while visiting Salta.
