Phoenix is in the process of constructing the
Valley Metro Rail, a public rail system scheduled to begin operating in 2008, initially serving downtown and central Phoenix, the airport and the neighboring cities of Tempe and Mesa. Until then, a couple other options for public transportation are available.
There is an extensive
Valley Metro Bus system serving all parts of this vast city, including downtown, the airport, shopping malls, stadiums, and wherever else you might need to go. You can
plan your route online. Single fares start at $1.25, and other
fare options are available, such as all-day passes that visitors may wish to take advantage of.
In addition to the Valley Metro Bus, there is the
Downtown Area Shuttle (DASH). This is a free shuttle bus system that serves Copper Square and other parts of downtown.
Routes and schedules vary somewhat with days and events, but expect to have regular service to most spots in the area from 6:30 am to 11:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The DASH does not operate on Saturdays or Sundays.
