Key West has distinct rainy and dry seasons. The dry season occurs from December through April, characterized by a lot of sunshine and a little rain. The rainy season occurs from May through October, when visitors should expect a quick shower and/or thunderstorms, particularly in the mornings or afternoons. The showers usually only last a short time and are sometimes a nice break from the heat. Do not let a chance of rain change your plans for the day.
June 1st through November 30th is the hurricane season, with the Fall months being the most active time for storms to form. In anticipation of such storms, mandatory evacuations of the area are not uncommon.
Spring is a popular time for tourists to visit, especially for college students on Spring Break. Hotel rates are typically the highest during this time of year. Christmas and New Years and other special events like Fantasy Fest also brings higher than usual prices -- even for season. You will also run into hotels and guest houses having minimum night stays required during many of these busy times.
