The city is served by buses with the Lafayette transit system to most of the cities main commercial and population areas, except on Sundays. According to the Louisiana Dept. of Transportation website, bus service in the city goes from 6:30 a.m. - 11:30 p.m. on those days.  There are at least three cab companies that serve Lafayette and the surrounding area.
     When heading to the more outlying areas of the region, it is better to drive or rent a car. Lafayette is close to a major Interstate but is generally surrounded by fairly small, far-flung towns that will not always be easy to get to without your own transportation.  The city is also served by Amtrak, Greyhound, and various airlines.
