Carson City is not a city with skyscrapers and large buildings. Instead, the buildings are smaller and you get a cozier feel for the area. In keeping with the style of smaller western cities, the buildings are traditional and beautiful, with influences from many different schools of thought on architecture. However, since 1996, the city has been going through some reconstruction and remodeling. Due to growth in the city in recent years, Carson City has been left with limited land for both business and residential accomodations. With this in mind, the city has begun work to try to restructure the park and trail system, as well as the overall plan of the city. Some of the designs break from the traditional style that has given Carson City its charm, and because of that some residents are unhappy with the changes. Still, the project has been moving along smoothly and is set to be completed in the next couple of years.
