Because of the heavy traffic that can sometimes be a problem in Reno, a number of public transportation services are available in the city. RTC Ride is the public transit system. It is a fixed route bus system that covers over 58 square miles and has 65 different buses. Tweny-four hour passes, seven-day passes and monthly passes are all available, as well as single fares, but bring exact change, because drivers cannot give any change back.
For the disabled, RTC Access is available, and is a free service. This is a prearranged door-to-door bus service for those unable to ride public transportation.
To get around in downtown Reno, the city has devised a system for avoiding traffic by providing Sierra Spirit, a free bus service that circles that downtown area in only 30 minutes. There are many stops along the way, so travelers can get to their destinations quickly and without the hassle of traffic or figuring out where to park a car.
To get a little further out of town, RTC Intercity provides daily bus service between Reno and Carson City.
