Visitors will find that State College is both small enough and safe enough to navigate almost entirely on foot.  Many of the attractions which visitors will want to make it a point to see are located on or near the Penn State campus.  Visitors can easily walk along the walkways provided by the campus to get to these locations.

For distances which are a bit too far to walk, travelers should consider renting a bicycle.  Because this is basically a college town, it is well-served by a strong network of bicycle paths.  This is especially true of the campus itself but also applies to the rest of the city.  There are numerous bicycle shops around campus where visitors can obtain information about bike rental.

Travelers who opt to drive will find that parking may be a bit difficult.  However, there are some off-the-beaten path locations which may be best reached by car.  Visitors can rent a car at the airport upon arrival, choosing from one of three different car rental companies.  See http://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g53... for additional information.

Visitors who want to reach those car-needed locations without actually renting a car will find that taxi hire is a viable alternative.   Visitors may be able to hail a taxi on the streets near campus, but a better bet is to call for a ride in advance.
