Upon arrival: Most travelers opt to rent a car upon arrival at either airport. The Brownsville Airport is located just over twenty miles from South Padre Island and the Valley International Airport is just slightly further away than that. This distance is far enough that it makes it somewhat pricey for taking a taxi from the airport but not so far that driving is any kind of problem. Car rental is available at either airport from major car rental companies such as Avis or Hertz.
By car: Travelers coming from anywhere in the United States (or elsewhere in North America) will most likely eventually make their way to Highway 77. This highway leads south towards South Padre Island. From this highway, travelers should follow the signs which will take them to Highway 100. Highway 100 will turn into the Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway which is the bridge to get to South Padre Island.
